The iPhone 12 mini has the same camera system as the iPhone 12, with a standard-wide 26 mm-equivalent lens with OIS and phase detection autofocus, and an ultra-wide 13 mm-equivalent (14 mm measured) lens, each with a 12 MP sensor. The 12 mini has the same fast A14 processor that’s in the whole iPhone 12 line, and comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64, 128, or 256 GB of storage, and is ready for 5G. The Super Retina XDR screen is covered by Apple’s ceramic-reinforced glass. Both have strengths and limitations, but what seems clear is that quality control in 2016 was important, and now the attitude seems to be ‘buy em cheap, stack em high and sell em off’ regardless of how good they are.įor this price point, this kind of issue is really poor and very disappointing from Apple.Released in November 2020, the Apple iPhone 12 mini is the smallest and lightest of the 12 line, weighing in at 4.76 ounces (135 grams) with a 5.4-inch display. The issue is substandard oled panels being sold at premium prices and/or a lack of quantity control. Erasing and restarting this phone (the token ‘go to’ Apple response) will not solve this. This is not a one off other iPhone 13 pros definitely have this issue. Coming back to the £1500 iPhone genuinely feels like a step down in terms of the horrible asymmetrical blotchy red dollops all over the screen. This evening, I’ve been using an old iPad pro from 2016 and it has impressive uniformity on white and grey backgrounds. I know I’m not the only one who is having this issue on these phones. It makes the screen feel cheap and substandard when trying to read text against a white background in lower light. There are big, ugly red blobs in the corners and on one side. Red tint uniformity issue on iPhone 13 pro max display Is anyone else really disappointed with the bad uniformity on the iPhone 13 pro max screen? The screen on this phone looks appalling In lower light when the background is white, or (even worse) grey. I've been a loyal Apple customer for some years and this is really ruining the experience. I wonder if I'm just terribly unlucky to come across this issue this many times, of if there's a serious, common problem with iPhone 12 displays. Considerably worse than last time.įor reference, this is the dark gray picture I'm using. This is a picture of how it looked before the last time it was replaced:Īnd this is how bad it looks now. I took some pictures in which a plain dark gray picture is being displayed. Worth mentioning both units were bought brand new, and my current one was even ordered on the Apple website. Obviously, it is also inconvenient to take it to the repair shop every month. Doesn't appear on black images, as it is an OLED screen and the pixels are just pitch black.Īs someone who uses his iPhone mainly at night, the issue really is annoying and hard to ignore. It has had its screen replaced twice by an authorized Apple repair shop, and both replacements happened because of the same issue: a very noticeable light bleed around the edges, especially when showing dark gray images or apps with a dark gray background, such as Coinbase or Spotify. My second (and current) iPhone 12 hasn't been too reliable either. So, I'm currently on my second iPhone 12, as the first had screen-related problems (at low brightness it aggressively shifted to green colors).
